Holographic Solar
MIT Tech Review reports on a new solar panel design that uses holograms to reduce the amount of silicon needed in solar panels by up to 80%. This translates to a cost reduction of about the same magnitude bringing solar electricity into a cost competitive zone with what you buy from your local utility company.
I’ve been watching this space closely to see which new approach to solar is really going to deliver. It looks like more cost efficient panels are finally going to hit the market over the next two years.
These new panels and California’s solar tax credit for homeowners make going solar a very real possibility.
I am planning on adding panels to 50% of our roof as soon as the economics pan out.
